Ian was born in England and was trained as a graphic designer. He moved to South Africa in the early 1960’s.

His career began as studio manager for a national newspaper, before becoming an Art Director for an advertising agency. Later he started his own design company, Saxon Design Studio, based in Durban.

In 1986 Ian moved his family back to England and started up a new design company. Ian now works primarily as an illustrator and visualiser, providing concept sketches through to finished art work as well designing book covers and providing illustrations for children’s books.

Living in Africa shaped Ian's worked enormously, with the strong skies and dramatic landscapes a recurrent feature in his work. His illustrations have been used widely and he has won international awards for his art work.
